Haiku in an Anglican Church

Year 5/6 children from Rawdon St Peter’s School in Leeds visited our local church – St Peter’s. We spent some time sat in silence, thinking about how it made us feel, about what came into our thoughts as we looked around.

These Haiku poems reflect the wide spectrum of our experiences that afternoon.

Clare Oddy – Class Teacher

The cross it glistens
God, come to our hearts in peace
Christ, we will meet you.
By Abi

Still, peaceful and calm
Feelings set free from my heart
Everyone’s alone.
By Emily C

Memories, now ghosts
Speak to me from far away
Nothing but memories.
By Gareth

Stained glass clear and bright
Colourful pictures of old
Still shining quite bright.
By Daisy

Church; place of worship
Place to remember your friends
Happy; sad; happy.
By Ione and Jessica

At peace with the world
In a church- kind, quiet place
The world is happy.
By Ione and Jessica

Colours shining through
God is watching over us
Graceful chandelier.
By Georgia

Gold candles glisten
Eagle stares over the pews
God’s gift to the earth.
William K

Rawdon St Peter’s
Has a very peaceful church
It is also big.
Cameron

Peaceful and quiet
Calm, loving, very detailed
Peace in the calm church.
Hannah

The church is friendly
Calm and peaceful, all at rest
God’s book brought to life.
Holly

Rawdon St Peter’s
Our great church is wonderful
From God’s church to us.
Connor

Sit, relax in church
Family of God for ever
Love in God for ever.
